'No sign of summer' - Met Éireann predict nasty twist in latest weather forecast

There is no sign of summer in Met Éireann's latest weather forecast with a nasty twist on the way within days.

After a period of warm and often humid weather with thunderstorms, Met Éireann are predicting another brutal period of weather from next week.

They say it will be largely dry between now and the weekend but "unsettled weather" will return next week.

Their latest forecast says: "[On Thursday], Patchy light rain and drizzle in the northeast and east, mainly dry elsewhere with sunny spells. Highest temperatures 10 to 16 degrees in moderate northwest winds."

They predict "patchy drizzle in the northeast with mostly dry weather elsewhere" overnight. They say it will be "a cold night, lowest temperatures 5 to 9 degrees with light northwesterly winds, as low as 1 to 3 degrees in the southwest where skies are to be clearer."

The rest of the forecast adds: "Largely dry tomorrow [Friday], the best of any sunshine in the southwest, a little patchy rain in the east and north. Highest temperatures 12 to 16 degrees in light northwest to west winds.

"Largely dry with clear spells [on Friday]. Cloudier over the north and east with some showers developing over Ulster and north Leinster. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in light variable winds.

"A cloudy day on Saturday with a spell of rain gradually tracking northeastwards from Munster. It will be mildest across Ulster, where it could stay largely dry until the evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in mostly moderate southeast winds. Rain will continue to track northeastwards across the country with clear spells and showers following the clearance [on. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in light southerly winds.

"A mix of cloud and some sunny spells with scattered outbreaks of showery rain [on Sunday]. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees, in light to moderate westerly winds.

"Showers will continue overnight with some clear spells [Sunday night]. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, in light to moderate westerly winds."

Beyond the weekend, Met Éireann says there will be "showers to start on Monday but becoming more isolated through the day with good sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, in light to moderate westerly winds."

A bleak outlook for the week after that says it looks like "turning more unsettled next week with spells of rain."
