LIVE: Leitrim hit with Status Yellow weather warning as strong wind and rain is expected

Met Éireann has confirmed that seven counties, including Leitrim, have been placed under Status Yellow weather warnings as the country gears up for heavy rain showers and strong winds. 

A rain warning is now in effect for counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. Heavy rain, which may turn showery, is expected along with some hail showers also. The warning will lift at 9pm this Sunday.

A wind warning has also been put in place for Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo, as well as Galway. The Status Yellow warning will come into effect at 1pm, where people are urged to gear up for strong and gusty west to northwest winds. This will lift at 10pm on Sunday night.

Also in Donegal, a Status Yellow wind warning will come into effect at 12pm on Sunday before lifting at 4pm. Strong and gusty west to northwest winds are expected to hit the county. 

Wicklow's Status Yellow wind warning will come into effect at 3pm, staying in place until 8pm that evening, November 23. 

County Clare is now preparing to be hit with these gusty winds as a Status Yellow warning will come into effect at 7pm before lifting three hours later at 10pm. 

The Irish weather forecaster has warned that counties placed under the rain warning may experience spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions while counties under the wind warning could face potential impacts of fallen branches, loose debris and difficult travelling conditions.
