A weekend of Drama at Bornacoola Community Centre

A weekend of Drama at Bornacoola Community Centre

The Chastitute and The Spinsters for your enjoyment. The Bornacoola Players are threading the boards once more with another wonderful play from the pen of J.B. Keane, on Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of March at 8pm nightly. “The Chastitute” delves into the life of bachelor John Bosco McLaine who’s endeavours to find true love have caused him some serious heartache! This hilarious, yet sometimes tender story reminds us how rural life can be for the “singledom”. See Michael Frayne as he stands

the other side of the camera and takes centre stage as John Bosco.

Coupled with this production is “The Spinsters”, by Eileen Walsh. “The Spinsters” will make you laugh out loud as the two bachelor Duane brothers get into a spot of bother with their late Aunt’s will - but as always, there is a way out of it - and the two crafty brothers are quite happy with the outcome. See our local national school principal Declan Bohan as neverbefore! Johnny Duffy, our “Lock-Up Alarms” man, who finds himself in a sticky situation.

The troupe consists of local amateur actors who have spent night after night rehearsing with one goal in mind: that is to put on a good show. This year, the Bornacoola Players are thrilled to have two young actors Brendan and Killian Frayne who recently starred in Chris O’Dowd’s amazing “Moone Boy”. Brendan and Killian played the Bonner Brothers and now the talented duo star in the Chastitute as a pair of troublesome townies. The boys are sons of Michael and Linda Frayne, so we can safely say that the talent comes from their genes!

There is a large crew and cast with Alan Carney taking on the role of Stage Manager. The play is directed by Anne McGuinness and funds are in aid of local development. So for a wonderful weekend of drama - Bornacoola Community Centre is the place to be - on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March. 8PM Nightly. Tickets can be booked on 0858186578. Phone now and don’t be disappointed!

Defibrillator News

Bornacoola has a very valuable resource in 12 defibrillators positioned in various locationsaround the parish and approximately 110 people have been trained to use them. In order to maintain and upgrade vital defibrillator equipment it is necessary, once again, to appeal to the generosity of the people of the parish. Our last fundraising efforts were very successful and, this time, we are hoping to raise €6,000 for future upgrades and battery replacements. A member of the committee has been nominated to fundraise in all areas of the parish, pleaseplace your donation in the envelope provided and it will be collected from you.

Further training will be taking place in the near future, if you wish to be included please give your name and phone number (mobile if possible) to the person collecting in your area, to any member of the committee or text your details to 087-6359727. Defibrillators are a valuable asset in our community; please help us to achieve this upgrade.

The Willies had probably more possession but Annaduff played the more effective football. Ray Cox opened the scoring with a point in the 6th minute, two minutes later Alan Rowley slotted over a fine point. It was 24 minutes before Aughawillan opened their account with a Morgan Quinn point. In the 28th minute a Brendan Guckian pass put Joe Cox got in behind the defence and he made no mistake with a well taken goal. This left the score at the break at 1-2 to 0-1.Annaduff started the second half without Ray Cox who had to go off with a foot injury. Joe Cox got a point from a free in the 38th minutes; it was another 12 minutes before the next score a Morgan Quinn point for the Visitors.
