Tea Day

Abbey Haven Care Centre and Nursing Home, Carrick Road, Boyle will host the Western Alzheimer’s Tea Day on Friday 26th April. The Tea Day is a Fundraising Event and all monies raised will be used to secure help in the community for all those families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease. May Day celebrations

Croi na nOg Steiner Kindergarten will be celebrating May Day (Bealtaine) on Saturday, April 27th at their centre in Aughnagrange, Boyle (just off the Frenchpark Road). The Management Committee would like to wish the children and all their families a wonderful day.

Curlew Walkers Club

There will be a walk on Sunday April 28th meeting on the Crescent at 9am, this will be a climb grade B Croagh Patrick West Route with your leader being Noreen Roche. Please confirm times with leader or on website prior to each walk

Curlew Warrior event

National Spring Clean 2013

National Spring Clean is taking place during the month of April. This is the ideal opportunity for voluntary groups to organise events to clean up litter in their local area with the assistance of Roscommon County Council. If you are interested in taking part in the campaign you must first register with An Taisce. You should also register with the Environment Department of Roscommon County Council – 090-6637265.

Laugh out loud

Boyle Golf Club

Sunday, April 7th saw the foursomes won by Niall Kearney and Pat Brogan 39pts, 2nd James Shivnan and Michael Reid 35pts, 3rd Francie Flanagan and Michael Gilmartin 34pts. The winner of the Crumlin Classic who will go on to represent the club were Colm Loftus, Michael Keville and Dara Loftus. 2nd Adrian King, Charlie O’Donnell and Michael Gilmartin 84pts, 3rd Pat Gannon, Gerry Emmet and Michael Keville 80pts. Thanks to Shane Kelly, SuperValu Boyle who sponsored the prizes. The Club will be making a contribution of €500 to Crumlin Hospital. The presentation of the March prizes took place took place in the evening. Club Captain Sean Heslin congratulated all the winners and thanked competition secretary Michael Rushe for his great work. He also thanked all who took part in the competitions adding that this income was vital to the club. He thanked Charlie, Willie, Michael and all the volunteers for their great work on the pole forking last week. He also thanked Tom Rochford and Terry Canning for organising the Spring Royals and congratulated the winners Pat and Stephen Gannon. He finished by thanking Mary for providing the catering and also for looking after the volunteers during the week.The April draw was also held in the evening. Jackpot winners were James Cooke €100, runners up Sandra McCrann and Margaret Egan €45 each Thanks to all who took part.

Next draw Sunday May 12th. New members welcome. The April edition of the club newsletter is available in the clubhouse. The Membership campaign is underway and members are encouraged to take part. If you have family, friends, neighbours or colleagues who might join please encourage them. All houses in the area will receive a promotional leaflet and canvasses will take place in the town during April. It is also intended to visit schools in the area to encourage students to join. Members are also asked to encourage greater use of the clubhouse whenever possible.

The final round of the Spring Royals took place in Boyle last Saturday. Congrats to the winners Pat and Stephen Gannon. At the presentation the organisers Tom Rochford and Terry Canning thanked everyone for taking part, the club for facilitating and Mary for providing the lovely food.

They also thanked all involved in preparing the course. In response Pat Gannon thanked Tom and Terry for organising and also thanked the club. He finished by thanking all those involved in the pole forking adding that it would pay great dividends for the course. Poetry competition 2013

Boyle Arts Festival is delighted to announce the Boyle Arts Festival Poetry Competition for 2013. Prizes: €500 first prize plus 4 x €50 highly commended Closing Date June 15th.
