Leitrim LGFA SFC Final reaction

You’d imagine that after winning seven Leitrim LGFA Senior titles on the trot, the feeling might be starting to wear off. But according to Player of the Match Anna Devaney, the delight at winning the county is a feeling that never wears off!

Speaking with the Observer after being presented with her Award after Glencar Manorhamilton’s 2-17 to 0-2 victory over St Joseph’s, Anna initially found it hard to express her delight: “We're absolutely delighted - I mean coming up the road it's a whole different team the last seven years. We always have new girls coming in there, they just proved themselves so much again today and it's just unreal like this feeling never gets old.”

So what’s the secret that keeps Glencar Manorhamilton going and going, virtually unbeatable within the county? According to Anna, the influx of new players every year and the desire within the squad to keep themselves top of the pile are vital factors.

“The younger girls just keep pushing on and again it's just this feeling, it's the best in the world and I suppose you could say we're greedy, we just want to keep going and going and going and nothing's enough for this team.”

But is it hard to keep focus on the task in hand, year after year, particularly when Glencar Manorhamilton start each year as the hottest of favourites, the team to beat? “I suppose there's a lot of talk outside the camp and when we had such a strong championship run as well, there's always going to be chatter the whole time.

“But I think, as a collective, we really didn't let the talk of seven in a row or favourites seep in - I don't think we were complacent out there at all today, we knew that St Joseph's were going to come with a serious, serious job for us and we went out and got it done and I think we kept our standards high.”

Anna also paid tribute to her teammates and the management behind Glencar Manorhamilton’s continued run of success: “There's just an unreal bunch of girls there and then an unreal management behind us as well that are always driving us on.

“When you have the likes of Sophie, Nessa, Aoife Boylan, Molly, young girls like that coming in they're just always pushing and you know they're trying to get positions and they're taking our positions and it's great to have that youth coming through the team as well.”

As for her Player of the Match award, it was a nice award to get but the main task was to take home the cup: “Delighted - we have the main cup and that's the main thing but this is a nice token, isn't it.”
