Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC: Mohill will need to play an awful lot better believes manager Eamonn O'Hara if they are to defend their title

O'Hara delighted by Mohill's character but less pleased with Connacht Gold SFC Semi-Final display

Hard to know exactly how Eamonn O’Hara felt after Mohill’s dramatic injury time Connacht Gold SFC Semi-Final victory over Fenagh St Caillins as the former Sligo All-Star veered between delight at the character shown by his charges and annoyance at his team’s display.

“Wow, what a way to win,” was Eamonn’s reaction when approached by the Observer, “Jesus, John, it was so poor by us for so long. That second half, it's just very, very disappointing. We played second fiddle when they got that goal and came back into it and then went a point ahead.

“We had no energy. All their fellas outworked us throughout the pitch and just a little bit of magi  by Jordan, a little bit of magic there by Shane when he got out of that full back line gave us a little bit of go forward and a little bit of work rate to win that last ball back but I’m delighted for the group.”

Domhnaill Flynn’s match winner was the stuff of dreams but for O’Hara, it again demonstrated the resilience and winner’s mentality in the Mohill squad: “Domhnaill Flynn, who probably didn't kick a ball most of the game, came up with an absolute worldly at the end of the game.

“Credit where it's due, I'm delighted for him. He's worked awful hard, he's had a baby, he's been worn out to be quite honest with you but I'm delighted for the group. I'm just delighted to be back in another county final but the performance will have to improve.”

Yet for all his disappointment, O’Hara was thrilled with the character and resolve shown by his troops: “Our lads just showed great character and were playing way below par. We knew what happened with Fenagh and the whole thing about their management and everything else so we knew that their first challenge was obviously just to get to a semi-final.

“But we knew Fenagh were going to come with a huge kick. We controlled the game very, very well in the first half. We left a couple of scores behind us but we shut them down really, really well. Fenagh were kicking a lot of high balls and we addressed that at halftime and thought we had everything sorted.

“Then the second high ball that goes in, there's a flick on and there's a goal and all of a sudden, we're on the back foot and Fenagh were very, very proactive and probably could have put us out of sight. We showed that bit of character of, you know, the resilience of the group but overall I'm just awfully disappointed in the second half. It was just really, really poor on our behalf.”
