Cllr Brendan Barry
Cllr Brendan Barry asked for a pedestrian crossing to be installed on the Hilly Road, Drumshanbo at Naomh Padraig housing estate near the Enterprise Centre.
He was speaking at the latest Ballinamore municipal district meeting.
A Report by the Roads office said the Hilly Road in Drumshanbo has received huge funding in the last four years and currently has two pedestrian crossings.
"The local community can apply for funding under Town and Villages or Clar schemes, but it would be unlikely to get further funding for additional pedestrian crossings," the response concluded.
Cllr Barry continued that there is a "huge population in Drumshanbo living on the Hilly Road and a lot of work has been done working from the town out."
However, he added, "we shouldn't stop there; there's over 50 houses between the two estates' ', (Naomh Padraig and An Grianán). "They're all on one side of the road and the path ends at the Enterprise Centre so people walking to town have to cross the main road to get to the path on the other side," he noted.
He said he believed it should tick the boxes to qualify under Active Travel.
Cllr Enda McGloin supported the motion saying there are "issues with hills and speeds of traffic" with Cllr Gerry Dolan also voicing his support.
Mr O'Boyle said he would liaise with the Active Travel team but added, "I'd say we've exhausted the Clar and Town and Village aspect there because we've been so fortunate with those schemes for the past five years on that road."
He said that his belief was that Active Travel would say that there is already a footpath there.
"We'll have to change the name from Hilly Road to Rampy Road if we put in another ramp," he joked.
