Fohera lane
Plastic bollards will be trialled at the junction of Fohera lane in Ballinamore, as reported to Ballinamore municipal district.
Cllr Gary Prior proposed the installation of the bollards, citing traffic issues that arise when the nearby funeral home is in use, resulting in a significant increase of vehicles in the town.
He informed councillors about instances of cars parking close to the junction, raising safety concerns.
Two firefighters residing on Fohera lane have expressed fear that, during large removals, their vehicles could be blocked, preventing them from responding to emergency callouts.
“I know there’s two double yellow lines at the location but a lot of locals have come to me recently,” Cllr Prior said.
“Cars are parking too close to the junction. I think a couple of plastic bollards on either side will prevent the issue.”
District engineer Darragh O’Boyle expressed his reluctance to install plastic bollards, noting that they break easily and can pose a hazard to pedestrians once broken.
“We’ve seen in the aftermath of the storm that the fire brigade is out 24/7. It's a pretty serious issue,” Cllr Prior said.
Mr O’Boyle agreed to trial the plastic bollards at this location, but stressed that they will be removed if they become damaged.
