Christmas day swims raise over €6,500 for visually impaired

Swimmers who took the plunge for charity

Hardy Christmas swimmers raised €6,500 for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, the National Council for the Blind and the Leitrim Talking Newspaper last year.
Events took place in Carrick-on-Shannon and Ballinamore with scores of swimmers taking part.
The swim in the River Shannon in Carrick had its youngest participant ever as six-year-old Amelia McEvilly braved the cold water.
The Christmas day swims raise much needed funds to provide services for the visually impaired in Leitrim.
Organisers would like to thank those who took part or donated money to the cause.
There are currently 120 blind and partially sighted people in the county, including 12 children. There are four guide dogs and one assistance guide dog.
Anyone looking for information on assistance can contact Edel Doherty on 0863856156.
