Carrick-on-Shannon Historical Society talk on new historical folk musical

The Famine, a sensitive time in Irish history

Famine

A discussion will take place on a new folk musical dealing with the Famine.

“In the Midst of Plenty” is a new folk musical dealing with the Famine that begins a nationwide summer tour this month, including Mullingar, Longford, Sligo and Roscommon.

It is the result of extensive research by Amy Day, author and composer-lyricist for the play which is produced by Roscommon-based Enchanted Croí Theatre.

On Wednesday, 17th May, 8pm in St George's Heritage & Visitor Centre, we invite you to join Ms. Day for a discussion of her research and writing of this new historical folk musical in which she worked with leading Famine historians to represent fairly this sensitive time in Irish history and to amplify the stories of those whose experiences were commonly lived but infrequently documented.

Admission €5, free to Society members. Further information 086 067 5283.
