A public meeting is scheduled tonight at 7pm at the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Organised by the Irish Forest Owners (IFO), the meeting is intended for forest owners impacted by Storm Éowyn and aims to address the challenges of storm-damaged forests.
Storm Éowyn caused widespread damage to forests across Leitrim, leaving many owners facing financial uncertainty and logistical challenges in recovery.
The IFO is calling for strong Government action to support those affected.
The IFO, a national representative body for forest owner producer groups in Ireland, will cover key topics such as the Government’s response to Storm Éowyn, emergency response and recovery strategies, financial assistance, short-term planning in mitigation losses and strategies to prevent profiteering in the supply chain.
According to Shannonside News, the IFO are expecting up to 600 people to attend the meeting.
The IFO has also highlighted networking opportunities to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants.
“Our forests are vital to our environment and economy, and it is crucial that we come together to support those affected by recent storms,” said Derek McCabe, Chair of Irish Forest Owners.
“This meeting is an opportunity for forest owners to gain valuable insights and resources to help them mitigate their losses, and to build resilience for the future.”
