Leitrim town ranked among best places to sit a driving test

Carrick-on-Shannon is ranked among the best places in Ireland to take a driving test, recent research has found.

The insurance company, Quote Devil analysed driving test centres nationwide to identify locations where learners have the highest chance of passing on their first attempt.

The test centre in Carrick-on-Shannon secured the second spot, boasting an average monthly pass rate of 61.8 percent.

Each month, the test centre receives an average of 139.8 applications, with 89.2 percent of them scheduled within a month.

The average waiting time for a test in Carrick-on-Shannon is 17.2 weeks and approximately five applicants fail to show up each month.

Loughrea, County Galway, claimed the top position in QuoteDevil’s rankings with an average monthly pass rate of 64.8 percent.

Clifden, also in County Galway, rounded out the top three with the highest pass rate among all analysed centres - 71.2 percent.

Meanwhile, data from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) for February revealed that over 74,600 people across Ireland are waiting for a driving test date.

Calls for reform have intensified as the backlog continues to grow.

The RSA states that no applicant should wait more than 10 weeks for a test, yet none of Ireland’s 61 test centres currently meet that target.

In January, the waiting time for a test in Leitrim reached six months.

To address the delays, the RSA and Department of Transport are recruiting additional testers in an effort to reduce wait times.
