Enda and Caroline McHugh are spearheading a project in Carrick-on-Shannon which will include a modern café, four residential apartments, and an aparthotel with 17 studio apartments.

A significant new development is on the horizon for Carrick-on-Shannon, spearheaded by local visionaries Enda and Caroline McHugh, promising to enhance the town’s vibrant community and economy. 

The project will include a modern café with ancillary rooms, two commercial office units, four residential apartments, and an aparthotel with 17 studio apartments, all connected via a link corridor to the historic Cannon House.

Leitrim County Council granted approval for the development on April 23, subject to 27 conditions.

Alterations involve the change use of the existing first-floor office space to residential use, including internal modifications, as well as alterations to the carriageway to provide level access to the proposed extension - this includes changes to both rear and front elevations.

Significant further developments include the construction of a three-storey and four-storey extension to the rear of the site.

This mixed-use development aims to blend contemporary design with the town’s rich heritage, offering new spaces for business, leisure, and living. 

The café and commercial units are expected to create opportunities for local entrepreneurs, while the residential apartments and aparthotel will deliver much-needed housing and accommodation options for residents and visitors alike.

“We’re thrilled to bring this project to Carrick-on-Shannon,” said Enda McHugh.

“Our goal is to create a space that supports the community’s growth while preserving the charm of the area. We hope to commence works soon and look forward to seeing this vision come to life,” he added.

Among the planning conditions are requirements that no spoil, dirt, debris or other materials are to be deposited on the public road, footpath, or verge near the site.

Additionally, resilience measures must also be incorporated into the development to minimise the potential impact of flood damage.
