Houses and creche should be developed at Dun na Si, councillor says

Leitrim councillors said that a creche at Dun an Ri would be a welcome addition

A Leitrim councillor this week commented on a vacant site in Dun an Ri saying that in the "middle of a housing crisis to have a fully serviced site such as this left vacant" is unacceptable.

Cllr Cormac Flynn continued: "You could fit quite a number of small houses; one or two bedroom houses that are in huge demand locally. The site was originally supposed to be a creche and I know most childcare facilities locally are operating at full capacity so I'm sure they'd welcome a new childcare facility. "

Cllr Flynn was speaking at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon meeting where he whey the site had been developed and called on Leitrim County Council to engage with the owners to progress a satisfactory use of the site. "It has fallen into dereliction, has experienced illegal dumping and is a child safety concern," he noted.

The report by Director of Services, Housing and Community, Corporate Services, Cultural and Emergency Services stated that the sit is on the left hand side of the entrance to the housing development and planning permission was granted to ADL Construction Ltd. for a housing development of 78 two storey houses and a creche with an external play area.

The creche was not constructed however and the site was then made safe with the erection of a timber fence and steel gateway.

The company who constructed the development has since dissolved.

The response concluded that the planning department along with the Vacant Homes Officer will engage with the registered land owners to request that any waste is removed from the site and enquire as to their future intentions for the site.
