RIP: 'Truly amazing lady, strong, caring, and full of love' - Carrick-on-Shannon lady

Mena Guckian (née Geheran), Aughakilconnell, Kilnagross, Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim

Mena Guckian (née Geheran), Aughakilconnell, Kilnagross, Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim on 4th February 2026 (peacefully) surrounded by her loving family in the tender care of the nurses and staff at Sligo University Hospital.

Pre-deceased by her parents Ellie Jane and Francie, her brothers Joe and Seamus and her beloved grandson Oran.

Mena will be sadly missed and remembered with love by husband Mally, son Mal (Leitrim Village) daughters Sinéad (Dublin), Bernie (Kilnagross), Emer (Dromod), Sharon (Keshcarrigan), sons-in-law Vinny, Cian, Brendan and John, daughter-in-law Paula, adored grandchildren Robyn, Anna, Lottie, Claire, Senan, Abban, Connall, Fiadh, Ellie Jane, Coan, Art, Faolán, and Íde, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Among the comments, one person said: "She was a beautiful lady, so kind and thoughtful and always ready to help others."

Another penned: "Mena will be missed by many, not least of all her family and those of us who counted her amongst our dearest friends. Her legacy will live on in you, her family, and her community."

Mena will repose at St. Patrick’s Church Gowel (N41 HX83) on Friday 6th February from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock.

Mass of Christian burial on Saturday 7th in St. Patrick’s Church Gowel at 12 o’clock, followed by burial in Kiltoghert Cemetery.
