Fianna Fáil has confirmed the addition of Paddy O’Rourke to the party’s ticket in Sligo/Leitrim to contest the General Election on November 29.

He will join Cllr Edel McSharry and Eamon Scanlon on the ticket for the constituency.

Paddy is a native of Carrigallen and married to Rita with a grown-up family. Cllr O’Rourke has been a consistent poll topper in the last four local elections. He is heavily invested in his community and being a farmer and operating a small agri-related business he understands the struggles his constituents face.

" Paddy is a very energetic worker on behalf of the people. He has a tremendous record of political delivery and is a strong advocate for Leitrim,” Tánaiste and Leader of Fianna Fáil Micheál Martin said.

“I believe the party’s ticket in Sligo/Leitrim of Cllr Edel McSharry, Eamon Scanlon, and Cllr Paddy O’Rourke is a well-balanced ticket with three hard working and diligent representatives on it”.

Reflecting on his addition to the ticket Cllr O’Rourke said: “I am honoured to have been added to the ticket in Sligo/Leitrim for the general election.

“Coming from a county that hasn’t had a resident government TD since 2007, there is a lot of catch up to be done on behalf of the county.

“With modern technology, no part of the constituency is out of reach from within it.

He added: I have never shied away from difficult tasks and my experience and work ethic over the years has seen me conquer difficult tasks on behalf of my constituents.

"With the experienced gained from the 2016 general election when I came within a whisker of taking a seat, I am up for the challenge.

“While acknowledging it won’t be easy, I still think it is doable, what convinced me to go forward was the ground swell of support that I received from people up and down the county, north and south, and elsewhere in the constituency. With people urging me to provide leadership, and hopefully representation for the entire area,” he concluded.
