€304,736 for repairs and improvements
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has announced funding of €12.5 million for repairs and improvement works on our rural roads and laneways which includes €304,736 for Leitrim County Council.
The funding, under the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS), will support the continued improvement of non-public roads and lanes that are not normally maintained by the local authorities.
The investment is key to supporting vital road infrastructure in rural communities, as well as providing access to homes, farms and outdoor amenities such as lakes, rivers and beaches.
Local Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has welcomed the allocation of €304,736 for Leitrim County Council.
“I am delighted to see this generous allocation for Leitrim early in the year to allow the local authority to get these private lanes done early in the year,” he said.
“The LIS scheme has been generously supported by this government and the last one when the then Minister Michael Ring began to allocate LIS funding when the department of transport ceased funding the scheme as a separate allocation around 2008.
“I want to again thank my colleague Heather Humphreys for giving this worth scheme funding priority again for 2023”, concluded Deputy Feighan.
The overall announcement by Minister Humphreys means some €112 million has now been allocated to local authorities under the Local Improvement Scheme since it was re-introduced in 2017.
