Ballinamore Sean O'Heslins and Glencar Manorhamilton recorded important wins in the second round of the Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Championship on Saturday evening while there were also wins in the Smith Monumentals Intermediate Championship for Melvin Gaels and Drumkeerin.
The battle of first round winners Leitrim Gaels and Ballinamore Sean O'Heslins in Leitrim Gaels community field was a close affair with the home side leading by two points at the break. However, Mickey Graham's Ballinamore fought back in the second half, backed by the strong wind, to record a 0-14 to 0-11 win.
The victory leaves Ballinamore joint top of the table with St Mary's Kiltoghert, the Carrick men occupying top spot on scoring difference, while the Gaels lie in fourth place despite the defeat.
Glencar Manorhamilton hit an impressive 21 points in their home victory over neighbours St Patrick's Dromahair. Manor led 0-9 to 1-3 at the halftime break, the goal coming from the penalty spot for Robbie Cunningham and when the visitors hit a second goal early in the second half through Gary Fowley, the gap was back to four points.
However, the home side surged again and with Martin Feeney earning his marching orders with a second yellow card, Dromahair were unable to keep pace with Glencar Manorhamilton who move into third place in the table on three points.
On Friday evening, Mohill and Fenagh St Caillins shared the spoils in Philly McGuinness Park at 2-7 apiece while Aughnasheelin scored a huge victory at home to Gortletteragh, winning 2-6 to 1-10 with the visitors ruing some bad wides against their most clinical hosts.
In the Smith Monumentals Intermediate Championship, Allen Gaels top the table ahead of Drumkeerin by one point on scoring difference after both won their opening games. The newly crowned Division 2 champions beat Bornacoola 1-13 to 1-6 on Friday evening in Shane McGettigan Park while new Division 3 champions Drumkeerin scored an impressive 1-10 to 0-7 victory over Carrigallen in Carrigallen.
Annaduff are also on two points thanks to their win the previous week over Kiltubrid and they are joined on two points by Melvin Gaels who edged past Ballinaglera in St Hugh's Park on a 0-10 to 0-9 scoreline.
The final game of the first round sees Drumreilly host Aughavas on Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
