Andy Moran is quickly setting his sights on Wexford, targeting a third win in the Allianz NFL Division 4 campaign when the Model County footballers come visiting Avant Money Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada on Sunday week, February 18.

Speaking after Leitrim's 1-8 to 0-6 victory over London last Sunday, Andy admits that Wexford pose a formidable test for the Green & Gold, particularly after two losses last year in the League and Tailteann Cup: “We had two good games with Wexford last year and as I said before, there is very little between any division 4 team.

“Wexford are going to come up, they’re a big, big units of men, Glen Malone and these guys, really big players and we just need to be ready for it but it is going to be a really, really tough game.”

Preparing for the challenge posed by Wexford is the next big task: “The preparation goes on, we go again on Wednesday, start developing a game plan. Basically, in six days, we had to develop a game plan for London which was different to Waterford and we just have to do the same for Wexford and Carlow.

“Just on the injuries, Jamie  McGrail is fine,  Jamie got cramp last week and literally it affected his training all week. If Jamie gives me 20 minutes or 40 minutes or 60 minutes, I don’t care just so long as he keeps trying the way he is trying. The boys love him, a really good guy and himself and Jack Foley give us a lot.

“Pearce just had a little tweak - to be honest with you if the game was on Tuesday, he’d have been fine and then Conor Reynolds, by the sound of it, it is very similar to Pearce. But this is going to happen, we have these three big games in a row - Wexford, Carlow and then Longford  - there are going to be injuries and we just have to deal with them.

“We’d love to have got Paul Keaney on today but again it wasn’t worth the risk because he needs to play that Sigerson Cup game on Thursday.”

The Leitrim manager also paid tribute to the late Tony McGovern of Aughavas and London whose passing earlier this year was marked by a moment's silence before last Sunday's game: “It would be remiss of us not to pay on our sympathy to the McGovern family.

“I got the opportunity to meet Tony in the last couple of years, an absolute gentleman, the stuff he has done for Leitrim football is going to far outweigh anything we do. Condolences to the McGovern family, just to thank every single one of them for all they have done for Leitrim GAA over the years, we really, really appreciate it.”
