With a smile as wide as could be, it is plain to see that Jack Foley is enjoying his first year with the Leitrim Senior footballers, a feeling very much boosted by the manner of the Green & Gold’s victory over Laois last Saturday.

The young Kiltubrid player, likely to line out with the U20s against Galway on Wednesday evening, answered simply when asked how he was finding his first year with the Senior side: “Loving it!”

Yet for all his youth, it is obvious that Jack has a wise head on young shoulders as he repeated the mantra of finishing the job next Sunday: “We really dug deep and fought and the result went our way in the end. We stuck to our process, we know what we’re capable of and we have amazing lads on our team, especially our forward play.

“If we put away the chances, we’d be fine. We just need to train hard during the week and get ready and the work isn’t done until the next game. Today is a great feeling but the work isn’t done until we win next week.”

He also paid tribute to the impact of the Leitrim supporters who thronged around the players after the dramatic win: “That is why we do it, that’s why we play for Leitrim football.”

Jack and Barry McNulty may be teammates on both Senior and U20 sides but they also share another interesting fact in that both their fathers played for Leitrim and the young Kiltubrid man admitted that having his father Shane in his corner is a huge help, albeit first with a joke!

Asked if his father gives him advice, Jack jokes “Too much!”  before adding “Obviously he is a good mentor to have, telling me what to do and stuff.”
