The Sheemore Gaels squad in 1974 county final.
The historic Sheemore Gaels team, the only amalgamation to win the Leitrim Senior Championship, will be honoured at halftime of next Sunday's Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC Final in Pairc Sheain Ui Eslin, Ballinamore.
Sheemore Gaels, a combination of St Mary's Kiltoghert, Fenagh St Caillins and Kiltubrid (who then played under the Kiltubrid banner) won the title 50 years ago in 1974 when they defeated Ballinamore in the final and amalgamations were banned at the end of the year.
The County Final celebration is just one of a number of events to mark the historic anniversary.
A small committee representing all three clubs, under the chairmanship of Vincent O’Rourke, have organised an evening of reflection and celebration on Saturday October 5. In tandem with the senior win, the Intermediate win by Fenagh that same year will also be celebrated.
The evening will consist of mass in Rantogue church at 7.30pm followed by presentations and refreshments in Gertie’s Bar Keshcarrigan.
All three clubs are inviting family, friends and supporters join them and celebrate with the heroes of 1974. Beidh failte roimh gach einne.
