Katie Taylor lent her support to the Lidl Ladies National Football League in Croke Park today as the company announced an extended partnership of LGFA to 2030.
Leitrim’s Niamh Tighe joined Danielle O'Leary from Kerry Ladies Gaelic Football, Nicola Ward from Galway Ladies Football, and Aimee Mackin from Armagh LGFA in Croke Park today.
The Irish sporting legend and world-renowned boxer Katie Taylor is putting her weight behind a new campaign by the retailer to showcase the ladies' game, reminding the public that ‘Greatness Deserves to be Seen’.
“Looking at all the barriers she broke down, which she talked about in her own sport,” said Leitrim’s Niamh Tighe.
“ You look at how well women's sport is doing in general, you look at the athletes, you look at Charlene Mawsley or Kate O’Connor, what she achieved this year, and just all across the board - Katie McCabe - with soccer.”
“There are so many inspirational female sports people, and it is the same as in the LGFA, and you suppose that today it is just about highlighting that, trying to get more coverage and get more exposure, and just showcase that talent.”
The event highlighted growing interest towards women's sports in Ireland. LIDL has sponsored the LGFA since 2016, taking the retailer’s total investment in LGFA to €22.5m since the partnership began.
The new League campaign commenced last Sunday with action in Division 4, where Leitrim saw off Longford in an impressive display.
The Division 1 action gets underway next Saturday, January 24th, with a high-profile fixture as Kerry travel to Dublin for a live TG4 clash at 2.45pm.
