Paddy O’Rourke led the way for the majority of the Leitrim first preferences tally but Martin Kenny overtook him to top the board like he did in South Donegal.
Martin Kenny topped the poll in Leitrim with 26.2% (4628 votes), followed by Paddy O’Rourke with 21.9% (3858 votes), and Frank Feighan who is a distant third with 16.5 % (2918 votes).
The Leitrim count was the last section of the constituency to be counted as with Martin Kenny topping the polls in South Donegal and Frank Feighan winning out in Sligo.
After the first count, no candidate will be elected on the first count as none have cleared the quota which stands at 11,300 (Less or minus 50).
Parties outside of Fianna Fáil, Sinn Fein, and Fine Gael performed worse in Leitrim compared to the other counties in the constituency only taking 21% of the votes in the county.
Marian Harkin’s ship ran aground in Leitrim as she only picked up 8.2% (1452 votes) amount of the vote, she will rely heavily on second preference votes to have a chance of retaining her seat.
