Cannabis plants discovered outside Ballyconnell

A man appeared before Cavan District Court on Thursday charged in connection with the discovery of a large number of mature cannabis plants being grown at a property near Ballyconnell.

Gardaí raided the site close to Ballyconnell on Tuesday, March 21.

Members of the Detective Branch attached to the Cavan District were accompanied by uniformed members and members of the Armed Support Unit in searching the premises under warrant. A male in his 20's was arrested at the scene and detained for questioning at Cavan Garda Station. He was subsequently charged with drug related offences and appeared in court in Monaghan on Wednesday, and latterly remanded in custody following an appearance at Cavan District Court on Thursday.
He is being charged with cultivation without a licence, contrary to the Act.
