Spring is in the Air
Ms Colum’s first year science students were busy in our school garden this week and they sowed their own red and white onions which they will look forward to eating later in the summer.

3rd Year Cookery Exams
Well done to the 3rd year Home Economics class who completed their first official state exam. Students completed their practical cookery exam (worth 50%) on Monday 20th March. They were very busy practicing their dishes on the lead up to the exam and they showcased a great range of skills on the day. Well done everyone.

TY Reptile Workshop
The Transition Years had a great interactive hands-on workshop on 22nd March covering all aspects of reptile behaviour and biology. An interesting, fun and informative workshop. Thanks to Melanie from Dino Experience for coming to talk with our TY’s.

Darkness Into Light Registration
Ballinamore Community School will once again host a Darkness into Light Walk on Saturday, 6th May. We host this walk to show support to all those who feel darkness in their lives, for all those who have suffered with their mental health.
When we walk together in darkness as the light of a new day dawns, we join together in hope that the darkness will pass as will the despair. Early Bird Registration for the Darkness into Light Walk is now open www.darknessintolight.ie

Amber Flag News
The Amber Flag Committee launched their Walk for Wellness where students are asked to walk 40 laps of the school in 4 weeks to improve their mental health. They are encouraged to make sure no one walks alone and to talk to each other while they walk. Those who complete the 40 laps will be rewarded at the end.
The Amber Flag Committee also completed a bake sale fundraiser for Acquired Brain Injury Ireland. Cakes were made by staff and students and enjoyed by all. A total of €400 was raised which was amazing. Well done to Ms Simpson, the Amber Flag Committee and the TY’s who also helped out.

Careers Talk
Ms Mannion’s senior students attended a talk with Sgt John Campbell from the Irish Defence Forces regarding possible careers in Central Medical Units, Cavalry Corps, Engineer/Ordnance Corps and Infantry Corps.
The students were enthusiastic and it was an excellent opportunity for them to meet Sgt Campbell who served in several different countries during his career.
