Fundraiser
Our recent fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society raised €350. The students wore yellow or a football jersey to school and donated €2 to a good cause. Well done to the LCVP students; Georgia McCrann, Edel McKiernan, Keeva Murphy and Jane Morris for organizing. Thanks to Mr Duffy for coordinating the event along with the LCVP students.
Practicals
This week we had the practical Leaving Certificate Exams in Engineering and Art. Well done to the students involved. They have worked hard all year towards their exams and these practicals, another piece of the puzzle in place for them. We are fast approaching the exams in June and it is great for the students to have a part or percentage of the exam under their belts. Thank you to Mr Duffy and Ms Purcell for their hard work with the students in preparation for these exams.
Bake Sale
Ms Murphy and the ASD class held another bake sale on Friday to raise funds for the National Autism Charity ASIAM and our own ASD classes. We held a cake sale last Friday for First Years and it was a great success and this one was for Second Year students only.
There was a wonderful display of cakes and treats and the students were delighted to take part and contribute to such a worthy cause.
Well done to Ms Murphy for coordinating the event with her colleagues in the ASD classes. I’m sure this event was as successful as the last. We will update you on the monies raised as and when that figure becomes available.
Workshop
Last week our ASD classes enjoyed a workshop on Glass Staining with Colette Langan. Some beautiful pieces were produced. Thank you to Colette for facilitating this workshop, the students really enjoyed it. Thanks to Ms Murphy for organising it.
First Year Football
Well done to our first years on a fantastic win in the Connacht Quarter final last week against Ballyhaunis Community School in Frenchpark. This was another high scoring game with the final score 10-6 to 5-9.
In a tight first half the scores were level at half time, Mohill 3-2 Ballyhaunis 2-5. Ballyhaunis scored 1-3 at the start of the 2nd half to go 6 points up but from then on Mohill went on a scoring blitz to eventually run out 12 point winners.
Speedy recovery to Conor Brennan and Ethan Neary who picked up injuries in recent weeks. Thanks to Mr Sheridan for coaching the boys and accompanying them to the game.
School Trip
Second Years went to the zoo last Wednesday as part of their CSPE project and their end of year tour. They took part in a module on animal conservation and enjoyed some free time in the zoo. Thanks to Ms Dolan, Ms McNamee Patel, Ms Reilly, Ms Earley, Ms McHugh and Mr Rogers for accompanying them.
Under 14 Girls Football
Congrats to the 1st and 2nd year girls who won the B competition blitz in Carrick-on-Shannon.
MCC played Glenamaddy in the first game and won on a scoreline of 2.9 to no score. We then played Castlerea in a tight game but pulled away in the second half and won 3.5 to 1.2 with outstanding performances from all the girls but special mention to Molly Conroy, Sarah Gray and Kasey Duignan.
We then played Carrigallen VS in the final, another tight game but players of the match, Molly Conroy and Captain Kayla Faughnan helped get MCC over the line, winning scoreline 1.5 to 4pts. Well done girls and Ms Canning.
Gradam Aitheantais Gaeilge Coláiste Pobail, Maothail - Special Irish Award to Junior Certificate students at Mohill Community College
We are delighted to announce that two of our students here at Mohill Community, College Aoife Bentout and Zara Sheahan achieved a distinction ( 90 to 100%) in Irish in the Junior Cycle Examination 2022. The students above are among only 2.6% of students across the country who achieved a distinction in the higher level T2 Irish paper last year in the new Junior Cycle Irish examination.
We echo the words of Pól Ó Dochartaigh from the University of Galway when speaking recently about these students – “You should all be very proud of yourselves , you are exceptional students , with exceptional ability in the Irish language and you are a great source of encouragement to us as we can rest assured that the future of the Irish language is in safe hands “
Aoife Bentout is a past student of Annaduff National School and Zara Sheahan of the Hunt National School here in Mohill and they are pictured with M Ní Dhonnchú, Irish teacher, having been presented with a special award from the school principal Una Duffy. Comhghairdeas.
