Carrick-on-Shannon Flood Relief Scheme is progressing
Leitrim County Council and Roscommon County Council in partnership with the Office of Public Works are progressing the Carrick on Shannon Flood Relief Scheme. Carrick on Shannon and Cortober have a history of flooding from the River Shannon and its tributaries and major flood events in November 2009, the winter of 2015 and, to a lesser extent, spring 2020, have presented the most severe flooding in living memory in the area.
Ryan Hanley Ltd. were appointed by Leitrim County Council in February 2020 as engineering and environmental consultants to develop a Flood Relief Scheme (FRS) for Carrick on Shannon and Cortober. Following an initial Public Consultation in 2020, site surveys, and assessments of the locations involved have been carried out and there are a number of solution options to show the public. As a result, an information pack including a questionnaire is being delivered this week to households in the Carrick on Shannon and Cortober area. This will be followed by a public consultation event which will take place on Thursday July 20 from 2pm to 8pm in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon.
The project team will be on hand at the public consultation event to hear the views of the public on the options under consideration and the development of a flood relief scheme for Carrick on Shannon and Cortober. This is an opportunity for the public to take part in the options assessment for the Carrick on Shannon Flood Relief Scheme. The opinion of the public is greatly appreciated and will be given full consideration by the project team. The comments and views received will be analysed and included in the assessment of options and will contribute towards the identification and development of a preferred flood relief scheme. Please let your views be known either at the Public Consultation Day or by writing to the address below, giving your comments. Please return your submissions, comments or completed questionnaires, no later than Thursday August 24 2023.
Once the preferred flood relief scheme has been identified, a further opportunity to comment will be provided to the public, at a later date, as part of Public Consultation Day No.3.
