Road “practically closed” by overgrown hedges

hedge cutting needed on narrow road

Cllr Padraig Fallon said that people are “hugely frustrated that they cut their hedges every year but there are a number that don't."

He was speaking at the latest Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting.

He said: "One of them broke a mirror and went ballistic. They say it's the same people who do not cut their hedges every year and something will have to be done.”

The issue was raised after Cllr Frank Dolan called on the Council to carry out some grass and verge trimming on the lake road in Glencar "as this road is now at its busiest."

Cllr Fallon continued that “enforcement letters are written to the same individuals every year around the issue.”

He asked that if the local authority cut the hedges “could they bill those individuals for it” adding that the road he was referring to is “practically closed at a point”.

He was told the Roads Section will assess the route and routine hedge cutting operations are expected to commence in the coming weeks.

Overhanging trees could lead "serious accident"

Cllr Frank Dolan also said that the" Killenummery Community Committee has expressed concerns about overhanging trees that are obscuring the view of motorists at the bridge adjacent to Killenummery Hall. I ask Leitrim County Council to examine this as it could lead to a serious traffic accident," he said.

He was advised that the Roads Section will investigate this location to see if corrective action is required.
