Kilbeggan Races on Sunday, August 12.
Racing like everything else has been affected by the weather, but Kilbeggan carries on providing good racing and an opportunity to get out of the house, regardless of the weather.
There is even an opportunity to have a good day out during the Fleadh and enjoy the combination of racing in Kilbeggan.
The Summer Saturday Festival is on 12th August with the first race at 5.25pm.
THREE SPONSORED RACES AND THE SUSTAINABLE STYLE LADIES COMPETITION
The feature race at Kilbeggan is the Homevalue Hardware Mullingar Handicap Steeple of €25,000, generously sponsored by Dermot and Conor Kilmurray, which creates more competitive and exciting racing, with a good prize to be won in a good chase.
In addition John Mahon of the Hospitality Group from New York are also sponsoring a race. The Bank House Family is sponsoring the historic Joe Cooney Memorial Cup.
Hopefully, with some glorious sunshine in the air, the ladies will have the Sustainable Style Ladies Competition with the winner receiving a €3,000 prize. It is sponsored by Ollie Ryan and Matt Corcoran of Midland Veterinary Tullamore.
All the wonderful ladies are being encouraged to show us their upcycled outfits, favourite ethical brands, whether it be thrifted, borrowed or handmade, with headwear an optional extra – it’s time for your sustainable style to shine. It certainly will be an interesting occasion for all.
Rose of Tralee Rachel Duffy and Lifestyle Influencer Eileen Loughlin of Everything Eileen Fashion Influencer will Judge our Competition.
Paddy Dunican Managing Director stated “We are delighted that Kilmurray Homevalue Hardware Mullingar are sponsoring our feature Handicap Steeplechase of €25,000, which will attract better quality horses creating more competitive and exciting racing.
“Our Summer Saturday Festival provides excitement, colour, and thrilling racing in a brilliant atmosphere, and it’s about people enjoying themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. Our Sustainable Style Ladies Competition have embodied class, style and confidence year after year, and the competition is always a colourful and elegant affair”.
A FUTURE RACING STAR HAD A TREBLE AT KILBEGGAN
There is a racing expression, “A good rider can hear his horse speak to him. A great rider can hear his horse whisper”. This could apply to a young jockey, who had a treble at the last Kilbeggan races for three different trainers.
A young Tipperary jockey Cian Quirke is only 21 y/o and with a claim is hot property, after beating Davy Russell in a finish. Ruby Walsh had already picked him out as a future star after a win in Punchestown.
In poor conditions he managed to have a treble in Kilbeggan on Kellies Dream 9/4F in a handicap hurdle for Andrew Slattery; Pakens Rock 15/2 in handicap chase for trainer Barry Murphy; and Seskin Flyer 6/1 winner in the last race for Pat Carey.
It was a remarkable achievement and he will always remember his first treble at Kilbeggan. Take a note of him and you might be remembering a great new star.
