Labour representative, Bernie Linnane, has been selected to run for the local election in the Manorhamilton Municipal District. Bernie Linnane lives locally in Dromahair, with her family, and has been involved in local politics and various campaigns for many years.
The newly selected candidate said: “I am honoured to have been selected to run for election in the Manorhamilton area. I love this community and I am excited to have the opportunity to represent the people of this area.”
"I am a financial broker and accountant, living and working in Lovely Leitrim, though originally from the Shortgrass County of Kildare.
I was very active in recent referendum campaigns, being a founder member of Leitrim for Choice and former Treasurer of the Abortion Rights campaign.
I remain Chair of the Campaign against Church Ownership of Women’s Healthcare (Our Maternity Hospital) and feel privileged to serve on the boards of Sligo Rape Crisis Centre and Dromahair Community Playschool."
"I have been involved in political activism, in one way or another, for many years and feel I have more to give. I believe strongly in social responsibility and contributing to society at a local, as well as national level. The future of our communities is too important to leave in the hands of others."
At a local level my priorities are to ensure that:
• We have responsible planning and sustainable building development with the preservation of our precious natural environment in Ireland’s loveliest county.
• This area has recreational and sports facilities that promote community activity and inclusion.
• A welcoming and accepting community response is offered to those coming to live in our beautiful county.
Representative Linnane concluded: “I believe in actively participating in, and contributing positively to, local communities and – making the right choices in how we use our resources so that Ireland works for everyone, not just the well-off. "
"I have been involved in political activism in one way or another for many years and feel I have more to give. I believe strongly in social responsibility and contributing to society at a local, as well as national level. I look forward to meeting as many residents as possible while campaigning in the local elections,” she said.
