Cllr Justin Warnock
Cathaoirleach Cllr Justin Warnock asked Leitrim County Council to add Kinlough to at least five road signs between the N4 at Drumsna and on to Drumshanbo, saying this will promote the R280 as a route to access the north of the county through,
He said some of the most beautiful landscapes Leitrim has to offer is in their part of the Hidden Heartlands.
Cllr Warnock said he was "shocked by the amount of people coming from the south of the county that use the N4 to go to Sligo" saying that "if we want to get people in through the Hidden Heartlands, we need to put up signs" with the other members supporting the motion.
He was advised the Traffic Signs Manual (TSM) stipulates that the number of destinations on a sign should be kept to a
minimum – a maximum of four and nearest intersection towns with a population greater than 200.
The signage on the R280 north of Drumshanbo already have four destinations on it of towns greater than 200 population, namely, Drumkeeran, Dromahair, Sligo, Manorhamilton and the signage on R280 existing at Drumkeeran does have Kinlough included.
Cllr Warnock responded that "Kinlough needs to go on a sign near Drumsna, before people go into Carrick-on-Shannon" adding that "signage still means a lot to people."
