Bus shelter need at Our Lady’s Hospital

Bus shelter need at Our Lady’s Hospital

Our Lady's Hospital, Manorhamilton

With the winter season approaching and more and more people using public transport, a bus shelter needs to be provided outside Our Lady’s Hospital, Manorhamilton, on the pedestrian path, was the view of Cllr Felim Gurn at the latest Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting.
"I ask that discussions take place between the HSE and the Council to provide a quality bus shelter along with carrying out repairs of the wall outside Our Lady’s Hospital at the bus stop."
The response said that the council's Active Travel department is liaising with the HSE regarding a land take which is required for the bus shelter at that location.
"A consultant is currently at the preliminary design stage for a Safe Route to School Scheme at this location and the bus shelter design will be incorporated into this and construction will be carried out in 2024. The repairs of the hospital wall are a matter for the HSE," the response concluded.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Justin Warnock said that "for people to stand in the wind and rain in this day and age is ludicrous."

Cllr Gurn said that he was advised that there is "no allocation for bus shelters in north Leitrim" and that with high fuel costs, more people are using public transport and the situation needs addressing.
