Samhain at the Organic Centre, Rossinver
The Organic Centre has the perfect way to kick off the Halloween break. Start the festivities at the Organic Centre on Friday October, 27 from 12-5pm in a free traditional Samhain celebration.
There will be Halloween memories of old and seasonal tales with story teller Gene Sheeran, other entertainment with Nordic/Celtic Fusion band “Cú” (now on tour), and Folk artist and raconteur Tony Cuckson.
Get a chance to pick your organic pumpkin /squash at the centre.
Make natural decorations and up-cycle with our Steve and Fiona from Green Shoots. Bring and swap your Halloween costume to reduce waste, in a swap shop in operation throughout the season, more important than ever. In 2013, Irish consumers spent almost €40 million on Halloween. A study by environmental group Hubbub in 2017, found that seven million costumes are binned each year in Britain alone. It also discovered that 63% of the costumes worn are made using polyester, which takes between 20-200 years to fully decompose.
At the centre families will enjoy games & spooky special guests. Don’t worry about dinner as you can get the chance to cosy up with Colcannon and Barmbrack and more seasonal delights that day and over the Halloween period (with Matt and Karma) at the Grass Roof Cafe.
Dervilla Keegan at the centre said: “Halloween is always a special time of the year at the Organic Centre with the natural light on the countryside and a perfect time to celebrate together as it has been in generations gone by.
But we are also conscious that Halloween can be one of the scariest times of the year for waste, so we are trying to work together to find ways to reduce, spend time together and look back at old ways.
We have also decorated the centre so there’s a few spooky surprises to enjoy on our event and when you visit throughout the Halloween break!”
