A talk with authors Ronan McGreevy and Tommy Conlon about new book 'The Kidnapping'

Authors Tommy Conlon and Ronan McGreevy with Don Tidey.

Carrick-on-Shannon Historical Society presents “SEETHING WITH SEDITION? LEITRIM AND THE KIDNAPPING OF DON TIDEY - A TALK WITH RONAN McGREEVY and TOMMY CONLON” which promises to be an in-depth and intriguing look at an infamous event of modern times.

Compère Carole Coleman (Carrick native, journalist, author, broadcaster, and teacher) will lead the discussion into the 23-day harrowing event that culminated in a happy ending for Dublin supermarket executive Don Tidey kidnapped by the Provisional IRA, albeit tragically accompanied by the deaths of an Irish soldier and a trainee Garda in the rescue shootout in Derrada Wood near Ballinamore.

Co-authors Ronan McGreevy (Carrick native, author of several books on historical events, and journalist for the Irish Times) and Tommy Conlon (Ballinamore native, author and sportswriter for the Sunday Independent and The Times) are looking forward to sharing their findings with the general public on Saturday afternoon, October 28, at 4pm sharp in St George's Heritage & Visitor Centre, Church Lane, Carrick. (Doors open at 3.30). Further info: 086 067 5283.
