Concerns have been expressed over road safety in Leitrim due to motorists avoiding roadworks.
According to a Newtownmanor local, many motorists are currently using the R278 as a way of avoiding the road works on the N16 out of Sligo.
Motorists taking this route are being urged to slow down and show respect to non-motorised road users in the area.
All non-motorised road users in the area such as walkers, runners, cyclists and equestrians are being advised to wear high visibility clothing when out on the road, day or night.
Motorists are also advised to be mindful of these users and slow down/ give hem a wide berth.
