Essential night-time restrictions required in parts of South Leitrim to conserve water and protect supply

11pm to 8am nightly

Uisce Éireann advises customers in a number of areas in South Leitrim that essential nightly restrictions will be required from tonight until Monday morning.

These restrictions are necessary to improve reservoir levels and maintain a sufficient supply to homes and businesses during the daytime following operational issues at the plant.

Customers in the following areas will experience reduced pressure from 11pm until 8am, nightly from tonight until Monday morning: Carrick-on-Shannon, Drumshanbo, Leitrim Village, Mohill, Carrigallen, Dromod, Drumsna, Ballinamore and surrounding areas in South Leitrim.

It can take two to three hours following return of pressure for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas.

Uisce Éireann continues to monitor reservoir levels daily and will provide an update on Monday if further restrictions are required.

Uisce Éireann’s Peadar Griffin said: “We are appealing to customers in South Leitrim to conserve water help reservoirs to replenish. Any efforts that customers can take to reduce their water use can collectively result in significant improvements to reservoir levels.”

Peadar added: It’s important that we all consider our water usage and look at simple yet impactful ways to conserve. It can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but even small changes can make a significant difference.”

For more simple ways to conserve water, check out the Uisce Éireann conservation calculator (www.water.ie/calculator) which can help people work out how much water they are currently using and how they can conserve even more.
