Christmas cookery in home economics class.

Alzheimer Society Fundraiser

TY’s are currently completing a course ‘Creating a Dementia Inclusive Generation’ in their Religion class with Ms Maxwell to learn more and gain a better understanding about Alzheimer’s and Dementia. As part of their module, they organised a ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ fundraiser for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and raised a total of €411. Well done everyone.

GCE Poster Competition

Congratulations to our first year GCE Poster Competition Winners Markuss Gulbis, Favour Umukoro and Emily McGirl. The theme of the competition was peace in our world. Thanks to our social justice club who judged the entries for the competition.

Festive Cheer

In the lead up to the Christmas break, there were lots of activities happening both in and out of school. TY’s enjoyed a trip away to Dundrum for ice-skating and shopping. A well-deserved treat for the group following a very busy term in which they have done great work in the school and their communities.

There was lots of Christmas baking going on in the home economics kitchen, the Student Council organised a Christmas quiz and the Amber Flag committee organised an odd shoe day raising €65 for SVP.

On Monday, 18th December, some of our students visited Ballinamore Nursing Unit where they performed some traditional song and dance as well as some Christmas carols for the residents. Thanks to Fionnuala Maxwell and Brian Mostyn who also performed with the group as a follow up to the workshop completed earlier this term on weaving mummer hats.

Thanks to Mr Kane, Fr Sean, Fr Moses, Mr Duignan, Mr Keeney and all our wonderful singers and musicians for the carol service on Friday 22nd December. The Grinch even made a special appearance.

We presented Linda Halstead from St Vincent de Paul our food appeal boxes. Thank you to everyone who donated, it is really appreciated. After what has been a very busy first term, we would like to wish all our students and staff a Happy Christmas and New Year. Enjoy the well-earned break.
