Employment opportunities limited in Kinlough and Tullaghan - Warnock
Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Cllr Justin Warnock said that employment opportunities in Kinlough and Tullaghan are very limited.
With the continued growth in population in these areas, he asked Leitrim County Council to deliver the infrastructure necessary to the sites zoned for Enterprise and Employment in the County Development Plan 2023 - 2029 to maximise the potential for job creation.
A report by the Economic Development section of the local authority said land zoned Enterprise and Employment under the County Development Plan 2023-2029 in Kinlough is serviced with water and with sewerage to the site boundary.
The response continued that there is also capacity in the existing Kinlough wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to accommodate additional loadings and it is envisaged that the site recently purchased in Kinough with funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Building Acquisition Measure (BAM) will ultimately be developed by the community with the focus on creating space for enterprise development and creating opportunities for employment.
It said that land zoned enterprise and employment under the County Development Plan 2023-2029 in Tullaghan is serviced with both water and sewerage. There is also capacity in the existing WWTP to accommodate additional loadings. This site is bounded to the north by the N16.
Cllr Warnock responded this was "not correct because the area zoned for economic development and job creation, past the Four Masters National School (Kinlough) is not a serviced site; there are road works to be done as you head out to the co-op; there is no sewerage or water out there."
He continued that the site recently purchased in Kinough with funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development "will fill a void in Kinlough for services that are needed".
