Pictured are the cast of Widow's Paradise
Established in 2019, the Aughnasheelin Yellow River Drama Players have two very successful productions under their belt and they are delighted to be back on the boards again with their hilarious take on ‘Widow’s Paradise’ by Sam Cree.
With lots of familiar faces back on stage this year, you will be introduced to some brilliant new members to our cast, who will not disappoint!
Set in the 1960’s in a caravan in Ireland, Widow’s Paradise, directed and produced by Stephanie Prior and Angela Fitzpatrick, is a farcical comedy which introduces you to five ladies just looking for a holiday away from the ordinary but most importantly away from men!

Leading the ladies is Ruby (Maedhbh McTeigue). She is determined to make sure her daughter Sylvia (Riona McTeigue), does not make the same mistakes she has in the past in relation to men, but Sylvia may have other ideas!!
The ladies joining Ruby and Sylvia on their trip all have their own stories of love and disappointment.
First, we have poor Rachel (Anna May Kelly) who has a ‘sordid’ story to tell of her marriage and has sworn off men forever.
Next, we have Vanessa (Sharon Smyth) who has quite the history with penniless partners but would still not say no to a rich husband.
And then we have Lucy (Angela Fitzpatrick). Poor Lucy hangs on Ruby’s every word in fear, but has not given up on love, and is determined to have her happy ending.
Of course, the weekend does not go as planned with the introduction of men, fishermen to be exact, in the form of Harry (Dean Flanagan) who is about as fond of women as Ruby is of men.
He is joined by his son Alan (Fintan Fitzpatrick) who may not like fishing quite as much as Harry thinks!
James McCaffrey (Wee Man), Sharon Smyth (Vanessa) and Seamus Prior (Mr McGonigal)
And not forgetting Ernie (Brendan Sammon), who has no experience with women and has an unusual hobby, which turns out to be a curse and a blessing all in one!
You may think that this is enough chaos for one caravan, well, you are wrong, with the introduction of the Wee man (James McCaffrey) who manages the caravan park but likes to keep an eye on things, literally!
He introduces us to Wilfred (Terence Boyle) who needs a room for the night but is not prepared to run into a very familiar face!
And finally, we have Mr McGonigal (Seamus Prior) who is a rich widowed farmer who is open to marrying again, but he comes with a bit of baggage!
So do not miss this wonderful comedy filled with laughter, love, and lots of arguments in Aughnasheelin Hall on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of March. Curtain at 8pm sharp.
