Following her visit to Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday, Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns expressed her support for local candidate Lola Gonzalez-Farrell and emphasised the party's commitment to the needs of local rural towns and surrounds in the upcoming local elections in Leitrim.
Speaking during her visit to Carrick-on-Shannon, Deputy Cairns stated, "This is a time of growth for the Social Democrats, and I am so encouraged to have strong community-driven candidates like Lola standing for the party in June's local elections. Lola is deeply committed to seeing the kind of change that people around the country are ready for."
Cairns continued, "Lola has been extremely active in her local area and would be an exceptional public representative for the people of Carrick-on-Shannon. I would urge as many people as possible to get behind Lola's campaign."
The visit, which took place on Thursday, April 4, provided an opportunity for Deputy Cairns and Ms Gonzalez-Farrell to directly engage with local businesses and residents, listen to their perspectives, and discuss the issues that matter most to the community. Also joining them on the tour of the town was Rory Hearne, the Social Democrats candidate for the Midlands-North West Constituency in the European Parliament Elections 2024.
Lola Gonzalez-Farrell stated: "It was wonderful to see so many people interested in speaking with Holly and we were so proud to show her around our town. What was apparent during this visit was our thriving and generous community, where people genuinely want to contribute to making it a great place to live and work.
"I would like to thank both Holly and Rory for taking the time to get to know Carrick and south Leitrim better and look forward to more conversations with local residents as we move toward the local elections in June."
The visit underscored the Social Democrats' dedication to understanding and addressing the unique needs and concerns of residents in the Leitrim and Roscommon region, including public transport, housing, access to healthcare and community facilities.
