Cllr Paddy Farrell, Fianna Fáil, Carrick-on-Shannon LEA
Paddy Farrell (FF), who ran in the Carrick-on-Shannon LEA has successfully been re-elected to Leitrim County Council. Farrell secured 689 first preference votes and saw re-election on the seventh count following distribution of votes, bringing his total tally to 800. Nationally, Fianna Fáil claimed 22.9% of first preferences in the local elections.
Commenting on his re-election, Farrell said: "I'm happy to be re-elected. I suppose I'm in an awkward position because I'm on the edge of the Carrick MD. I was depending on votes everywhere to get me across the line.
"I have to say I enjoyed my campaign experience. All the people I met, I enjoyed talking to them. I could have done with another week, but overall I'm happy enough."
Farrell hopes to implement amenities in Leitrim Village for young families. "There are a lot of challenges out there, traffic control through the village is one issue that came up a lot on the doorstep. We have a lot of young families moving into the village and one thing we need badly is a playground for young kids."
"I know there is a site available and I think it is a necessity."
