Vanessa Power, the mural artist behind 'Signs of Power'
New murals now adorn the walls of Ballinamore and Cavan, created by lettering and mural artist Vanessa Power. Originally from Dublin, Vanessa moved to Ballinamore last year to embrace rural life with her new husband.
In 2014, she founded her business 'Signs of Power,' initially focusing on painting shop signs and commissions throughout Dublin and Ireland.
Over time, she transitioned to large-scale word-based murals, allowing her to fully unleash her creativity and refine her distinctive lettering style. Her vivid approach bridges the traditional craft of sign painting with the captivating aesthetics of the pop art movement.

Vanessa's murals often feature common phrases and positive slogans, uplifting and inspiring viewers. She meticulously scales her original designs for painting, using diverse techniques and mediums - from emulsion to spray paint - chosen to suit each wall.
Through her murals, Vanessa infuses colour and vibrancy into neighbourhoods, thriving on the feedback she receives from the public who appreciate the joy her art brings to their communities.
One recent mural, titled ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ decorates a gable end outside Ballinamore. Inspired by the tenant Paul Duffy’s love of country and western life, it depicts a prairie sunset with cacti and bold western-themed lettering. This mural brightens an otherwise mundane road, with one frequent passerby commenting that it makes them smile every time they drive past.
Her most recent work in collaboration with Breifne College in Cavan features a quote by Cavan native and writer John Boyle
O’Reilly: ‘Be true to your work, your word, and your friend.’
This message encourages students to live with integrity, staying committed and honest in their academic duties, personal promises, and friendships.
The mural is adorned with vibrant Irish flowers such as foxgloves, daisies, buttercups, and spear thistles, interwoven with the lettering to create a truly unique piece.
The mural was painted with the help of two eager students over the course of several days. Their assistance was much appreciated and encouraged by the art teacher Edel Crowe.

Vanessa thoroughly enjoys working with teenagers on murals for schools as it's incredibly fulfilling to see them take pride in their contributions and gain a sense of accomplishment from the finished mural.
Murals in schools leave a lasting impact, transforming the environment into a more inspiring and welcoming place. Knowing that the art they've created together will be enjoyed by students and staff for years to come is incredibly gratifying to Vanessa.
