Calls to restore services at Day Care Centre in Mohill

Cllr McGowan urged the Council to renovate the day care centre to restore services for south Leitrim

Calls to restore services at Day Care Centre in Mohill

The day care centre at Arus Carolan has been closed for about a year

A motion was proposed to the Council by Cllr Sean McGowan at its monthly meeting on Monday, July 8, in relation to the day care centre at Arus Carolan in Mohill.

Cllr McGowan requested that the Council promptly renovate the day care centre so that the services previously available to the people of south Leitrim can be restored.

“The day care centre has been closed for about a year and there's also a number of services provided that are no longer there.

“I ask for a modest sum to upgrade the facility at Arus Carolan to bring back the day care service and other services that are vital to the people of south Leitrim,” Cllr McGowan said.

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Maeve Reynolds.

“I suppose the pandemic brought out the best and the worst in everything and it was a major contributing factor to social isolation and everything else, when you don't have the day care facility there.

“Ireland was voted as one of the loneliest countries in Europe according to an EU Commission research, we're in need of having a facility there where people can go and meet their peers,” she commented.

Cllr Paddy Farrell remarked that he has raised the issue on two separate occasions at the Regional Health Forum.

The motion was supported by multiple councillors and Cathaoirleach Cllr Paddy O'Rourke agreed that the issue of the day care centre at Arus Carolan would be raised again.
