Leitrim towns receive funding for key community projects

Dromahair Pitch

Three towns in Leitrim are set to benefit from a total of €148,165 funding to support vital community projects.

This funding announced by Minister Heather Humphreys will support pre-development works for projects and support costs including detailed design, planning, procurement, professional fees, assessments, and other development costs.

Dromahair will receive €50,000. The focus of this application is to conduct an evaluation of the narrow access bridge (for both pedestrian and vehicle access) that provides entry to Dromahair Community Park, which includes the GAA pitch. Following this evaluation, planning permission will be sought to complete the project.

Leitrim Village will receive €48,165. This project will undertake surveys, reports, assessments and prepare for planning permission for the development of the derelict building purchased under 2023 BAM.

The project will bring this derelict building through to detailed design stage to planning permission stage.

Finally, Carrick on Shannon is set to get €50,000. This project will complete assessments, including environmental and active travel, of four key green areas that will improve connectivity around the town centre and improve access and connection to the river.

The project will also complete a public consultation and the development and submission of planning permission.

Deputy Frank Feighan said the funding will have a positive impact for residents, businesses, and community groups in rural towns and villages and their communities right across Leitrim.

“I was delighted to receive confirmation of funding for projects in Leitrim from my colleague minister Humphreys.

“I am particularly pleased that this funding will support bringing vacant and derelict buildings back into use, highlighting Fine Gael’s commitment to positive impacts for our rural towns and villages.

“This is just one of many initiatives and recent funding announcements for Leitrim a clear demonstration of this government’s intention to ensure our towns and villages are great places to live, work and raise a family in.

“I look forward to seeing these projects and initiatives progress, so vacant and derelict buildings in our towns can be brought back into use.” concluded Deputy Feighan.

“This funding will ensure continued investment in towns and villages around County Leitrim. The communities of Leitrim have shown great enthusiasm and commitment for improving their local areas in recent years, and I am pleased to see this announcement today," said Cathaoirleach Cllr Paddy O'Rourke.

"I am confident that this funding will enhance the development of infrastructure and amenities in towns and villages throughout the County, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.”

Mr. Joseph Gilhooly, Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council continued: “I welcome this investment by Minister Humphreys under the Town Centre First Project Development Measure. This funding will help to renew and bring further vibrancy to these towns and villages, and indeed their surrounding communities, and thereby making them attractive place to live and visit.”
