Manorhamilton Municipal District has heard there will be two new bus shelters in Manorhamilton next year.

Cllr Felim Gurn proposed a motion asking the municipal write to Bus Éireann to ensure that there are adequate bus schedules to meet the demand of students returning to ATU Sligo from areas including Blacklion, Glenfarne, Manorhamilton and Glencar.

He also noted that there are two dedicated stops at Shanvas and Glencar, but additional stops are needed along the route particularly at Our Lady’s Hospital and St. Clare’s National School in Manorhamilton.

“Bus schedules need to meet the needs of north Leitrim students.

“I hope there will be enough buses and they’re not leaving students behind as it happened last year,” Cllr Gurn said.

The motion was seconded by Cllr Justin Warnock.

A reply from the Roads department stated that new bus shelters will be erected at Our Lady’s Hospital and St. Clare’s National School in 2025 as part of the Active Travel Safe Routes to School Scheme.

Part eight, which allows local authorities to apply for planning permission for projects, will come before members at October’s municipal district meeting.

The municipal district will also ask Bus Éireann for signage at Shanvas bus stop.
