“It's just one of those days. Unfortunately, the day came in the semi-final, so that's just disappointing,“ Said Alan Flynn, Manager for St Marys Kiltoghert after the game.

The game was nip and tuck as neither team managed to look the clear favourite at any point. “It was a tight game. It was probably going to go to the wire all the way, really, the way it was playing out there from the start. Within 15-20 minutes you could see that's where it was going,” he said.

“We never got control of the game, really. And I thought even when we were one or two points up, we didn't look as particularly comfortable as we normally are,” he said.

There were some claims that the late Ballinamore attack, which led to their winning point, should have been stopped because of what looked like a possible pick up off the ground at the beginning of the move, but Flynn doesn't feel that it is worth focusing on that.

“There were a few tight (calls), all right, but sure listen, Ballinamore could have called for a few as well. So, I don't think it was down to that. We had plenty of chances to win the game and they didn't go over today”

“They got the one-point lead, it was going to be very hard in the last three or four minutes there to get possession back,” said Alan Flynn.

Their semi-final departure from the championship ends Flynn’s third season at the helm for St Marys, the question of whether he will be back for another is still in the air.

“We've put a huge amount of work into it over the last three years. We've won a championship, we've won a league, we've had success, we've had disappointments. But it's probably time now to reflect and see what everyone needs to do and what the plan ahead is. I'm not sure yet, probably a bit early to talk about that yet,” he said.

Though he stresses, “Mary's, will definitely be back”
