'It's all about giving a little something back' Kinlough woman organises coffee morning to raise funds for Motor Neurone

Leitrim woman Maeve Kilgannon's Morning for Motor Nuerone Dieases is aimed at raising funds for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Research Motor Neurone, a charity which is researching a cure for the condition.

“It's all about giving a little something back,” says Maeve (58) who was diagnosed with the terminal condition two years ago. “'I've received brilliant support from my two MND nurses Eithne Cawley and Charlene Crawford and the IMNDA provides a brilliant range of support like disability aides and tools,” she says.

To raise funds, her family have put together a 'Big Prize draw'  where people can win signed jerseys from Connacht Rugby and Leitrim GAA, signed cookbooks from Neven Maguire, Nigella Lawson, Darina Allen and Nadiya Hussain.

Singer Mary Black has also provided a selection of signed CDs and Vinyls, while there is a wealth of concert and event tickets including tickets to Mrs. Brown's Boys, Dara O'Briain, Rob Beckett, Deirdre O'Kane and Daniel O'Donnell.

There's also an online cookery course with Catherine Fulvio and a variety of high-value hampers, beauty kits. “There's almost too many to mention!” Maeve says, laughing at the scale of the project they embarked on.

“It's all about turning this disease into something positive," Maeve explained. “Most people when they think of Motor Nuerone Dieases they think in very clear lines, they think it progresses like Charlie Bird's. I want to reach out to show people that, while it is a horrible condition, it's possible to continue to live while having MND and, as long as I'm able, I'll continue to live with the condition.”

Those who want to enter Maeve's raffle can do this online by donating here.
