Two Leitrim Men Top the Irish Book Charts for Christmas

As Christmas approaches, two Leitrim men have stormed to the top of the Irish book charts. Ballinamore’s Paul Williams and Carrigallen’s Seamus O’Rourke are earning widespread recognition with their latest books.

Paul Williams, one of Ireland’s most respected crime journalists, continues to demonstrate his mastery of the true crime genre. His latest book, Crooks: The Stories Behind the Headlines, has climbed into the top 10, drawing readers into Ireland’s criminal underworld. Williams’ compelling storytelling and deep knowledge of Irish crime make Crooks a must-read for true crime enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Seamus O’Rourke, a celebrated playwright, actor, and storyteller, has captured hearts with his second memoir, Leaning on Gates. This follow-up to his first memoir reflects on rural Irish life with wit, humor, and poignancy. O’Rourke’s ability to turn everyday moments into compelling stories has earned him a spot on the non-fiction bestseller list.

O’Rourke shared his excitement on social media, saying, “It’s lovely to be shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards - Dubray Books Biography of the Year section. Thanks to Gill Books and everyone who has supported my book Leaning on Gates. Thanks to everyone for keeping Leaning on Gates in the Best Sellers since September! A Christmas gift for that someone that you’re not overly fond of… or a trip down memory lane for those who live in off the road! Available in most bookshops!!”

For Leitrim, having two local authors at the forefront of Irish literature is a source of pride. Their success showcases the diversity of talent within the county, from Williams’ gripping exposés of crime to O’Rourke’s reflections on rural life. Their contrasting styles appeal to a broad range of readers.

The success of Williams and O’Rourke highlights Leitrim’s literary talent and inspires aspiring writers and storytellers. As book sales continue to rise, it’s clear that Leaning on Gates and Crooks will be among the unwrapped gifts on Christmas morning in homes across the country.
