Leitrim Arts organisations secure €515,990 in Arts Council funding

Significant arts council investment strengthens Leitrim’s cultural landscape

Leitrim Arts Organisations Secure €925,990 in Arts Council Funding

Four arts organisations in Leitrim have been awarded a total of €925,990 in the Arts Council’s first round of funding for 2025, highlighting the county's vital role in Ireland’s cultural landscape. The funding forms part of a €68.5 million package distributed to 175 arts organisations, centres, and studios across the country.

The Leitrim Sculpture Centre, based in Manorhamilton, has received €350,000 under the Strategic Funding programme. This grant will support its ongoing work as a leading centre for sculpture and visual arts, both in the region and nationally. Similarly, Teac Damsa, known for its groundbreaking work in theatre and dance, has been awarded €410,000 through the same funding stream, enabling the organisation to continue its innovative productions.

The Dock, located in Carrick-on-Shannon, has secured €156,000 through the Arts Centres funding programme. As a cultural hub in the county, this funding will bolster The Dock’s ability to deliver an extensive programme of exhibitions, performances, and workshops that engage local audiences and artists alike.

Caret (^), a unique initiative supporting visual artists, will receive €9,990 under the Visual Artists Workspace Scheme. This grant will directly benefit six artists, providing them with vital workspace and resources to develop their creative projects within Leitrim.

This funding is part of a wider effort by the Arts Council to strengthen arts infrastructure across Ireland. Nationally, €57.7 million has been allocated to 104 organisations under the Strategic Funding programme, while €10 million is earmarked for 41 arts centres, and €746,000 is set to support 30 art studios across 15 counties.

Commenting on the announcement, Arts Council Chair Maura McGrath said the funding would help bring communities together through the power of art. Director Maureen Kennelly emphasised the importance of supporting regional organisations like those in Leitrim, which are central to ensuring the arts remain accessible to all.

This significant investment affirms Leitrim’s position as a vibrant centre for creativity, with its arts organisations playing a crucial role in fostering cultural growth and engagement both locally and beyond.
