Gardai are investigating an incident which saw the front window of Carrick Gadgets on main street Carrick on Shannon smashed earlier this week.
The incident occurred around 4am on Tuesday the 14th when a perpetrator broke the front window of the phone shop with a rock before fleeing the scene, according to owner Nadeem Raja.
Mr Raja, originally from Pakistan, has been in business in Carrick-on-Shannon since 2018, and runs a separate store in the town.
Mr Raja feels that the store was deliberately targeted as he says, the perpetrator wore gloves and nothing was taken from the store after the front window was shattered. “I think he is just targeting us but we do not have any issues with anyone,” he says.
The cost of replacing the glass on the storefront is around €1000, according to Mr Raga.
They are considering installing extra security measures, like shutters, but are reluctant to do so. “We are considering it but it’s not good for the reputation of this beautiful town,” he says
The Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit has since conducted a technical examination and Investigations are ongoing, according to Gardai.
